Today Noroc is announcing the completion of three major network infrastructure upgrades. Based upon commercial reliance on Internet service, Noroc upgraded its connectivty to AT&T from copper delivery to fiber-based Ethernet delivery. The new circuit offers far greater bandwidth than previously available. "Noroc peered with AT&T's network early in our history and our satisfaction level remains strong", explained Noroc partner Ryan Parthemore.
Next, Noroc has completed the evaluation and testing phases of Redline Communications' 3.65 GHz WiMAX band product, the Redline AN-80i. "Typically people want less government regulation in their lives, but in this situation the regulation is a good thing.", explained Parthemore. The alternative to government regulated radio frequency spectrum is unlicensed spectrum. Interference from other users in the same frequency band and same geographic area can degrade performance of microwave equipment. Requiring microwave operators to register with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) helps to ensure error-free operation.
Finally, the installation of Dragonwave's 11 GHz Horizon product now connects Noroc's Central Pennsylvania mountain-top tower sites together at speeds up to 800 Mbps. "Beyond these major line items there are even more improvements which we are very excited about", added Parthemore. "We now have emergency generator backup power with automatic transfer switches at every site. That allows all of us here to rest easier knowing that we won't have to respond in the middle of the night with a towable generator to power a site running on battery.
